Miller Gym in Wheeler Sports Center to remain closed through Sunday, June 4

Due to the need for more extensive resurfacing work on the gym floor, Miller Gym in the Wheeler Sports Center will now be closed through Sunday, June 4. It will reopen on Monday, June 5. Please note: Only the gym is closed; the Fitness Center and the athletics offices will remain open as scheduled.

Please protect our courts and gym area from damage and do not enter the gym during this time. Questions? Contact Dixie Downey (ddowney@georgefox.edu).

University closes this Monday to observe Memorial Day

All university offices in Newberg and at regional sites will be closed on Monday, May 29, to observe the Memorial Day holiday. Libraries in Newberg and the Portland Center also will be closed.

Attention undergraduate students! George Fox offers a series of full-credit General Education courses through our summer online program. Tuition is 50 percent off, and all courses are taught by George Fox faculty in their respective fields (see this link for a simple video introduction to the online courses as a whole).

The summer online term runs for eight weeks, from June 5 to July 30. If you still want to sign up for a course, this is the time to do so! The enrollments are capped at 20, and some sections are nearly full. The term starts in less than two weeks.

Sign up now for Search Advocacy Training

In order to promote equitable hiring practices and inclusivity in the workplace, and to further encourage the Be Known promise to our students, George Fox offers Search Advocacy Training. The workshop series establishes a theoretical foundation of current research about implicit bias and diversity, information about the changing legal landscape in hiring, and an overview of inclusive employment principles.

Rebecca Hernandez will teach a two-day session on Tuesday, June 6, and Thursday, June 8, from 7:30 a.m. until noon. Each day’s session will include a full breakfast, served from 7:30 to 8 a.m., and training from 8 a.m. to  noon. A boxed lunch will be included on June 6, as well as a ticket to the employee barbecue on the quad on June 8.

FoxTALE will be unavailable from 6 to 8 a.m. (Pacific Time) on Wednesday, May 31, for scheduled maintenance. We apologize for any inconvenience.

During this maintenance update, Spring 2017 course sites will be hidden to students (current semester course sites will be unaffected and remain visible to students). If you want to make any of those course sites visible to students after this update, select Administration>Edit settings. In the “General” section, look for the “Visible” setting and change “Hide” back to “Show.” Scroll to bottom and “Save changes.”

Fiscal Year End 2016-17 is quickly approaching, and the Finance Department would appreciate your help in ensuring a smooth and timely year-end close. Please review and note the following deadlines for Accounts Payable requests:

  1. All cash advance requests for FY2016-17 expenses must be received by Finance on or before Monday, June 12, 2017.
  2. Submission of the following FY2016-17 requests must be received by Finance on or before Friday, July 7, 2017:
  • Check Requests
  • Invoices
  • Expense Reimbursement Requests
  • Petty Cash Logs for expenses through June 30, 2017 ONLY

President Baker reflects on accomplishment of women’s golf team

After earning the program’s eighth straight Northwest Conference title, the university’s women’s golf team placed second at the NCAA Division III Women’s Golf Championships in Houston May 9-12. Accompanying them on the trip to Texas was President Robin Baker, who reflected on the team’s accomplishment in a blog post. You can read it here.

Hoover, Wood-Mar and Stevens lots due for restriping this week

Just a heads-up that, due to the currently fabulous weather, Plant Services personnel are trying to get as many parking lots restriped as possible. Slated this week are the Wood-Mar, Hoover and Stevens lots.

Timing will depend on the completion of the landscaping and clean-up in the Stevens lot, so please be prepared to park on the streets or in the Pennington lot at short notice.

This week’s 125 Day of Wellness Challenge: Group Picture

Get creative and take a group picture of your team doing an exercise of your choice and send it to hr@georgefox.edu. Then, give us feedback about your experiences through this challenge, via the 125 Days of Wellness Facebook page. You can also submit new initiative ideas for the next Wellness Challenge, or volunteer to serve on a George Fox Wellness Committee.

We’ll post your pics to the Staff Development webpage, and you will get to take an extra 125 points for yourself this week.
