Mailing envelope price changes

The new fiscal year is here and so are the new prices for mailing envelopes. Please take note of the new prices as you come into Mail Services. All of the new prices and envelope pieces are on display in the entry of the hallway and are clearly visible.

Join in on annual Red, White and Blue Jeans Day tomorrow

HR invites you to participate in our 10th annual Red, White and Blue Jeans Day! In recognition of our Independence Day holiday on Saturday (and observed as a university holiday on Friday, July 3), you are invited to wear casual attire in patriotic colors tomorrow (Thursday).

At 3 p.m. in the shade near Minthorn, the HR staff will serve up the all-American dessert – apple pie a la mode. In addition to this refreshment and a chance to visit with coworkers, in honor of the 10th anniversary of this event, we will be treated to a brief reflection by Mark David Hall, Herbert Hoover Distinguished Professor of Politics, and will join together in singing a patriotic hymn or two.

Summer student employees are most definitely invited to join us. Portland employees will enjoy an Independence Day celebration on Wednesday, July 1.

Please remove items from shower room in women’s locker room

All items in the coach’s shower room located off the Wheeler women’s locker room need to be removed by the end of day on Thursday, July 2. The lockers in this room will be repainted on Monday, July 6.

Bon Appetit serving up all-American barbecue for lunch today

We are grilling up hamburgers, garden burgers and chicken burgers today (Wednesday), and serving them with tossed green salad, summer stone fruit salad, chips, mini hand pies and a beverage for $6.75. Come on over to the quad for lunch! Hours are 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Bruin Den and Villa Café closed Friday

The Bruin Den and Villa Café will be closed this Friday, July 3, in observance of the July 4 holiday. Have a safe, happy holiday, and we will see you on Monday when we resume our summer hours of operation (8 a.m. to 2 p.m. for the Bruin Den and 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. for the Villa Café).

University closes Friday to observe Independence Day holiday

All university offices will be closed this Friday, July 3, in observance of the Independence Day holiday. The University Store will also be closed, as will libraries in Newberg and the Portland Center.

Be sure all university donations are turned in to advancement office

As the fiscal year comes to a close, please be sure any donations to the university (both monetary and in kind) have been turned in to advancement for processing. Spots still available on football’s Bruin Brigade this fall

When the Bruins play at home, you can count on a packed stadium. It takes a village to make our football games the success that they are, and we’d love to have you join our team of incredible volunteers, the Bruin Brigade. All volunteers will receive lunch at each game they volunteer, free entry into the game and a T-shirt.

Free HP 02 printer ink available

The registrar’s office has a few unopened ink cartridges we no longer use. We are hoping someone can use them in their university printer. Here is a list of what we have available:

  • HP 02 – Black ink
  • HP 02 – Yellow ink
  • HP 02 – Light Magenta ink
  • HP 02 – Light Cyan ink

If these ink cartridges will work in your printer, they are yours for the asking! Please contact Barbi Doran at ext. 2099 or bdoran@georgefox.edu if interested.

Accounts payable year-end deadlines

Fiscal Year End 2015 is quickly approaching, and the financial affairs office would appreciate your help in ensuring a smooth and timely year-end close. Please review and note the following deadlines for accounts payable activities:

Submission of the following FY15 documents must be received by the FAO by July 9, 2015:

  • Check Requests
  • Expense Reimbursements
  • Petty Cash
  • Error Corrections
  • Inter-Departmental Charges

Time sheet due date reminder

June is the final month for the 2014-15 fiscal year. All staff time sheets and admin time-off reports for June will need to be turned in to Human Resources by Monday, July 6, to close the fiscal year. Please plan ahead if you expect to be out of the office or on vacation.

First Aid/CPR/AED class has openings

If your department doesn’t yet have somebody certified in basic First Aid/CPR/AED, please consider signing up for training on Tuesday, Aug. 4, and Wednesday, Aug. 5. Class is held in Hoover 203 from noon to 5 p.m. both days, with the First Aid portion being on one day and the CPR/AED portion on the other day.

Sign-ups and payment are online on the security services site, and classes are capped at eight students. If these dates don’t work, please contact Mark Stone at mstone@georgefox.edu to consider scheduling the class at another time that works better for your department.

Space also remains in the Friday, Aug. 21, Basic Life Support (BLS) classes for health care professionals, and it is required for all nursing, PT and PsyD students, so sign up soon to reserve one of the eight spots!

University Store has openings for part-time customer service workers

The University Store is now hiring temporary customer service workers, with the potential to go long-term. Here are the details:

  • Start immediately
  • No experience is necessary, but you must enjoy serving customers and have the ability to learn our sales system.
  • Job is part time, with more hours during busy times (start of classes, campus events, etc.). Great for students and employee spouses who want part-time work (students do not have to qualify for financial aid).

Who’s on campus this week …

John Bates and Ken Ingram are hosting Gridiron Football Team Camp this week. About 170 high school students and coaches are here to experience coaching at the collegiate level and learn about George Fox.

NBC Basketball Camps are back for another fun-filled summer of sports camps. Camps run Sunday through Thursday, June 28 to July 2. Registrations are still being accepted for the camps starting on July 5 and July 12.

The Oregon Suzuki Institute begins this Saturday. The Oregon Suzuki Institute is a one-week summer institute for young musicians trained in the Suzuki method, a practice of music instruction developed more than 50 years ago by Dr. Shinichi Suzuki of Japan. The method is based on the concept that every child’s innate musical talent can be nurtured.
