What do I do with my mailbox keys?

Thursday, April 30th, 2015

Some instruction from mail services about mailbox keys …

  • If returning: Keep your mailbox key all summer.
  • If graduating or withdrawing: Return your mailbox key by the end of finals week to avoid a $15 non-returned key fine – charged to your student account.

Where do I return the mailbox key?
There are key return envelopes on the counters at all post offices. Fill out the envelope and seal the key inside it. Drop the envelope into the campus mail slot. You can also bring the key to mail services – where you pick up packages.

Student employees: Some info before you go

Wednesday, April 29th, 2015

Before saying your goodbyes and hitting the highway there are a few payroll reminders …

  • First, please be sure to lock your time sheets. This will prevent any hold on your paycheck for a signature.
  • Second, be sure your address is up to date with mail services so your paycheck can find you.
  • Another great option is to set up direct deposit before you go, so your pay won’t be delayed by mail. Click this link for the direct deposit form.

Questions? Contact Kasondra Silva in HR at 503-554-2184.

Deadline for community garden internship application is Saturday

Wednesday, April 29th, 2015

The community garden moved to a new location! There is a lot of work to be done this season to get the new space up and running, and we are looking for interns to help out this summer. Internships will run May through August. (If you are going on Juniors Abroad, that can be negotiated.) All interns should be in Newberg most of the summer and commit to coming to weekly garden work days.

Continuing students will receive a stipend of $400. A committed intern could request to take up to two of the following positions.

  • Planting & Harvesting Intern: Create and facilitate a planting schedule. Organize individual gardeners to pay specific attention to one crop or area of the garden. Work with garden coordinator to make a plan for what will happen at the garden each week. Approximately 3-4 hours/week.
  • Community Engagement & Social Media Intern: Communicate the opportunity to participate in the garden with George Fox and Newberg community. Work with planting and harvesting intern and garden coordinator to publicize garden activities and plans. Network with other community gardens in Newberg. Solicit donations from local garden retailers and to the food bank. Approximately 3-4 hours/week.
  • Writing Intern: Attend weekly garden work days and write weekly reflections and/or updates for the community garden blog.
  • Artist Intern: Attend weekly garden work days and help beautify the new garden. This might include decorative markers for each crop, garden art of your choice, helping design an herb spiral, or other ideas you have. It could also include paintings, sketches, or photos/videos of the garden to post on social media in collaboration with the writing intern.

Interested applicants should send an email with a concise description of any relevant experience, why they are interested in the job, and summer availability to Cherice Bock (cbock@georgefox.edu) by Saturday, May 2. Applicants should also have one professor or employer send a reference letter.

Vehicle registration process is changing for next year

Policy for leaving cars on campus

Tuesday, April 28th, 2015

The campus will be a beehive of construction as soon as school finishes, and as many parking lots and curbs as possible will be re-striped/painted this summer. Therefore, we need as few cars as possible being left on campus.

If you are going on a Juniors Abroad trip, Summer Serve trip, or are an international student, we would love for you to find a friend living off campus to leave your car with so that it can be checked on.

If that doesn’t pan out, please come to Security with your car keys, and we will tell you where to park your car. George Fox is not responsible for anything that might happen to your car if it is left on campus. Any car that is left on campus without the keys being left with Security will be considered as abandoned and will be towed at your expense. If you are here for May Term or working on campus during the summer, please pay attention to the Daily Bruin announcements as lots will be closed periodically for construction and painting all summer.

Questions? Please call Security at 503-554-2090. Thank you in advance for your cooperation so Plant Services can work unhindered this summer!

Please take your bike home

Tuesday, April 28th, 2015

Security has noticed a lot of abandoned bikes left on campus bike racks, and they are very tempting to potential thieves. If you are not staying on campus over the summer, please take your bike home!
